New TV Ad: “Clean”
SARASOTA – Today, Democratic candidate for Florida’s 16th Congressional District David Shapiro released his newest ad, “Clean,” highlighting Congressman Vern Buchanan’s cozy relationship with big sugar and toxic environmental record in Congress.
“When you see these signs, it means more than a lost day at the beach. It’s costing us jobs,” narrates David Shapiro. “Vern Buchanan took over a hundred thousand dollars from big sugar special interest, and voted to weaken regulations that fight the pollution that make Red Tide worse.”
The ad is launching the same day the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund is announcing their endorsement of David Shapiro’s campaign. Congressman Vern Buchanan’s record in Congress has been toxic for the environment: he has acted as a shill for Big Sugar and Bil Oil special interested and has been handsomely rewarded with hundreds of thousands of dollars from them, earning him a 9% rating last year from the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund.
“David Shapiro is committed to defending Florida’s beaches, waterways, and coastal economy,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “He’s spent his life standing up for Florida families and in Congress, we can count on him to stand up to corporate polluters. Florida’s environment has never been more at risk and we are proud to endorse David Shapiro because we know he will do what is best for our clean air, clean water, and public health.”
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund,” said Shapiro. “My community, like so many other coastal communities in Florida, doesn’t just read about the consequences of Washington’s poor environmental stewardship, we live them. Red Tide is damaging our businesses, restaurants, and Florida families’ pocketbooks. We need real leaders in Congress who will stand up to corporate polluters to protect our state’s water, wildlife, and way of life.”
This ad comes on the heels of a poll showing Democrat David Shapiro within striking distance of Congressman Buchanan.
David Shapiro is a candidate for Congress and an attorney with a 30 year-long career of protecting people from predatory insurance companies, government incompetence, and big corporations — and he plans to take that fight to Washington, where career politicians have failed to protect Florida families time and time again. David will fight to protect Social Security and Medicare, stand up for our veterans, fix our healthcare system, and work for real tax reform that helps middle class families without blowing up the deficit like Washington has already done.
David’s campaign in recent weeks has attracted national attention, as political handicappers Cook Political Report and Sabato’s Crystal Ball have upgraded the chances of the seat flipping in Democrats’ favor.
