David Shapiro Declares Victory in Florida’s 16th Congressional District Primary
SARASOTA – Attorney David Shapiro declared victory tonight for the Democratic nomination for Florida’s 16th Congressional on Tuesday night. Following the primary victory, Shapiro issued the following statement:
“For more than 30 years, I’ve fought against the powerful big interests to protect Florida families,” said Shapiro. “Now we’re ready to take that fight directly to Washington, where our veterans and seniors have been abandoned, our healthcare system has been further broken, and our oceans have been further damaged by special interests focused on their bottom lines. Our community deserves a Representative who will work for us, not for himself. I am ready to be that Representative.”
Shapiro will go on to face Congressman Vern Buchanan in the November General Election. Vern Buchanan recently garnered national attention for receiving a loan for his $3.5m yacht from a foreign bank trying to influence the 2017 Washington Republican tax handout. It was also revealed that Congressman Buchanan bought a yacht the same day he voted for the Republican tax bill, a bill he personally benefited from in the form of a tax handout.
